Breed Referral

If you are considering adding a dog to your family, we encourage you to do some research on the different breeds available. Doing some homework up front will give you a better idea of which breed would be best for your family, and help you find a responsible, ethical breeder or rescue.

To give you a head start on your research, we suggest you download this helpful brochure from the American Kennel Club: Before You Buy A Dog.

The Greater Fort Myers Dog Club does not endorse specific breeders or litters of puppies, and maintains no involvement in agreements between buyers and sellers.

It is always prudent to discuss health, training and temperament issues with breeders, judges or knowledgeable fanciers in the breed and to request documentation of sire and dam’s health clearances. This will help you make an informed decision on the dog you choose.

For more information, visit Orthopedic Foundation for Animals and read this information about Responsible Dog Breeders.

We Can Help

Please contact the following GFMDC members for information about the breed you are interested in. They can provide you with contact information if you are looking for a puppy, adult or rescue and get you breed specific information. They are available to answer any questions that you may have about their breeds. Please note that they may not necessarily live in the Greater Fort Myers area.
